…Christ, who is your real life…Colossians 3:4 NLT
Stopped at the traffic light there I sat, kids in tow, on our way for a summer treat in hopes the diversion would quell their bickering. My elbow on the armrest, chin resting on my hand, with a blank stare, I thought to myself this….is my life.
At that moment, my life seemed SO mundane. It’s not merely because I’m a homeschooling stay at home mom, by the way. I’m sure there are men and women working 9 to 5 jobs who’ve felt the same way at times. I love my family, I’m doing what Jesus asked of me in this season of my life, yet I’m left wanting. There’s more to it than this, right?
Well, having learned that dwelling on me or my circumstances is pure torture I quickly began personalizing Psalm 118:24: this is the day that the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in Him (and yes, I mean “Him” as opposed to “it”. “Him” is the direct translation of the original Hebrew word, a recent and exciting revelation!).
I barely got through the verse before interrupted by another thought: “Christ is your life”. The Holy Spirit instantly pointed out my screwy thinking and answered my question in one fell swoop. There is more, ABUNDANTLY more, when I realize that Jesus is my life. He and He alone is my fulfillment and there is nothing mundane about Him! A thought life identified with and consistently centered on Him will, like Peter, empower me to do the extraordinary. I’m up for some water-walking! Anyone care to join me?

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits at God’s right hand in the place of honor and power. Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on earth. For you died when Christ died, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your real life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. Colossians 3:1-4 NLT
I’m with you; let’s go!!
