Regret or REJOICE?

This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Regret is an insidious foe.  It sneaks in unawares.  Why didn’t I….?  If only I had…  If I had it to do over again I would…  Before you know it you’re filled with bitterness, feeling trapped by “poor” decisions.  I had one of those moments while getting ready for the day.  It doesn’t take much for me though since I’m introspective by nature, both a blessing and a hindrance!

As the water flowed I switched tracks to my personalized version of a verse I’ve been enjoying lately.  This is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in Him.  (See previous posts for explanation of change of the last pronoun.)  I realized I had a choice.  How would I exercise my will?  Spend today regretting past decisions or rejoicing in my Savior.  The past is dead and gone, but Jesus is alive and well with the all power to change the course of my life in every way; even changing outcomes of mistakes made in ignorance.  Not to mention, He is the Resurrection, so even seemingly hopeless situations turn around if I just turn them over to Him.  Oh and by the way, He’s crazy about me!

So, refocused, I went into the rest of my day with a sense of anticipation instead of regret.  And while nothing unusually “fantastic” happened today, I lived in the moment, full of peace.  All thanks to Him.
