A Father At The Helm

…But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.  Joshua 24:15

Nothing compares to a father leading his family, centering them on the finished work of Jesus Christ.

This school week started with Communion, as the past several had, but this time my husband led it.  He came downstairs with purpose this past Sunday.  I finished up my breakfast, and planned to go upstairs and add some final touches before leaving for church.  Next thing I know, Mark called everyone around the kitchen table and passed out the bread elements.  In a fitting manner, there was a single cup from which we would all drink.

After he told us the Lord put something on his heart, Mark eloquently and passionately reminded us all that Jesus is the center of our individual lives and family.  He spoke of the Lord’s passion and plans for each one of us and declared that fear, bitterness, and anger had no place in our home and family.  After he led us in prayer, we sealed it by receiving Communion.  Then my husband prayed over the children and finally for me.  You could imagine the tears that flowed that morning!

It was such a powerful, Spirit-filled moment and as the song goes “I heard the chains falling.”   Like I said, there’s nothing like a man leading his family, centering them on the finished work of Jesus Christ.  A close second, being the woman married to him.

I’m proud of you, Mark.
