A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1
Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone. Proverbs 25:15, NIV
Today, my oldest’s son’s reading assignment was “The Gentle Hand” by Timothy S. Arthur. The main character exemplifies bringing about peace and a willingness to hear with a gentle touch and soft words in contrast to various aggressive tactics. Why do so many default to harshness? Could it be we hear our Father’s tone distorted as a “roaring lion” rather than the kind compassionate words Jesus demonstrated as a direct reflection of His Father?
On a day when celebrate trickery and deception, I’m thankful for a reminder of this truth: God is not mad at me, He speaks words of peace to me, and sent His Holy Spirit to comfort me.
