I Give Up…Just Take It…All of It, PLEASE!

So it’s the end of another year.  It’s a time of reflection.  It’s a time to take stock of what’s working and what’s not and what we’re looking forward to in the coming year.

One thing I’ve gained from the experience of writing and finishing my book is that it was a product of rest.  When I tried to find the words to say or tried to say things a certain way, there was no flow.  I just sat there frustrated by the blinking cursor.  Then when I either prayed about what God wanted me to say or I walked away and did something else, words flooded into my mind.  Though I physically sat and typed out the book, it certainly wasn’t a product of my flesh or self-effort.  It was a collaborative effort I was honored to be a part of, spearheaded by the Holy Spirit.

Moses had a “gift”, his rod, which he could only take but so far in his hands.  He could only use it to lead sheep.  God called him to lead a nation out of slavery, but he’d have to surrender that rod, his gift, to the Lord.  Moses had to take the role of a sheep and follow the Lord’s lead.

We all have gifts, but in our hands they have limited reach or impact. Certainly not what God intended for them.   Beyond giving Jesus my life, I need to give Him every aspect of it: from my marriage to motherhood, to this blog and my book, and everything else.  I can only take these things so far in my hands.  The Lord’s calling me to surrender all of it to the Lord and see Him do great and mighty works in the coming year and the years to come.

As for this blog, I don’t know the direction it will take in the coming year.  I DO know it is stale and I don’t have the passion to post as I once did.  Does this blog need a face lift or a totally new direction?  I don’t know, but I surrender it to Jesus for Him to lead it.  He knows what He wants to do with my writing and more than anything I want to follow Jesus’ lead.  I’m excited to see what He does with this blog and all the other facets of my life.  I’m excited for what’s next for you too!  HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody!

So the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.”   And He said, “Cast it on the ground.” So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it.   Then the Lord said to Moses, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail” (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand)… Exodus 4:2-4
