Slow Down: God At Work

Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?  Romans 2:4

It is the goodness of God that transforms us from the inside out.

As many of you know, I have a thing for butterflies.  Beyond it being the meaning of my name, I’m fascinated that something so beautiful and delicate emerged from such a radical process.

The butterfly life cycle generally takes 5-6 weeks.  While it’s tempting to hope for such rapid makeover in our own lives, it just doesn’t happen that way. Sure, there are some whose encounter with Christ instantly changes them, but most of us change over time, even years, and it’s a total gut job.  Shout out to all my fellow lovers of HGTV!

I received Christ at the age of 19.  Before then and for years since, the teachings I’d heard emphasized God’s requirements and believers’ responsibilities. But in 2010 I began listening to sermons focused on God’s love, goodness, and saving work gloriously framed in the person of Jesus.

Wow!  So it’s not about proving my love for God, but Jesus proving His love for me at the cross.

But you can’t just “unknow what you know” (forgive the grammar, but it works).  If only it were as easy as the Holy Spirit replacing the old hard drive with a new one, right?  Psych! It just doesn’t happen that way. Repentance, or changing your mind, takes time, but God made the journey pleasurable…

Enjoy those grace moments throughout the day.  All those expressions of His kindness that you don’t deserve.

Just being mindful of God’s goodness changes your mind about His heart towards you. It’s what you believe about Him that completely changes your life!  Before you know it those gorgeous wings of yours will be fluttering in no time!

  1. I’m a TOTAL butterfly fan also! Thank you for visiting my space and for such an encouraging post. I’m also from the “responsibility” sector, not to knock it, but there’s balance. Good to meet you!
