Poem 15

THIS HOPE
By Vanessa A. Harris

Fear, a relentless foe,
never satisfied, always bringing reinforcements,
choking the life out of you,
draining every ounce of joy.

What is this hope springing up in despair?

My loving Lord, ever-present,
my Champion and lifter of my head.
My gaze now fixed on the cross,
where fear lost its teeth.

I find freedom in the face of fear.
