Is That Burning Rubber I Smell?

Worry is as pointless as the spinning wheels of an engine revved with the brake engaged. The smoking wheels, though loud and flashy, only amount to engine burnout. A whole lot of burning rubber going nowhere!

I believed Jesus would open a door to share the message of DADDY’s Girl Forever, at the right time. And the time came—over a year since the book’s release. Preparing for my radio interview last week, I celebrated God’s faithfulness while nervous tension simmered in my soul. During the day, I busied my mind with other things, but each night the “engine rev” woke me at 3am. Is that burning rubber I smell?

I thought about the numbers of potential listeners. It’s been a while since I’ve spoken before an audience and even though I wouldn’t see them, they were there. What if I said something stupid or fumbled my words? What if I didn’t do justice to the message DADDY God gave me about His girls…

“But it’s not about you.”

With those words the Holy Spirit interrupted my train of thought, clearing the smoke that clouded my vision. It’s about the message. DADDY God gave me these words. Jesus opened this door of opportunity. He opened the door because He’d prepared me to walk through it, with Him.

“I am with you. Sharing the message depends on your continued dependence on Me.”

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27

Trusting the Holy Spirit to fill my mouth with His words, I eventually fell back asleep listening to sermons full of the love and grace in Jesus Christ. Friday morning, I woke with such peace; a quiet confidence that gave me strength (Isaiah 32:12). Freed from worry, I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the show. Jesus couldn’t have orchestrated it any better!

The gracious show hosts shared so many points in the book they found personally meaningful, and we had great rapport. It felt like a trio of girlfriends hanging out, encouraging each other in our DADDY’s love and faithfulness!

I don’t know why we allow fear to create doubt about God’s heart toward us, but I know this…
