I’M the blessed mother of three children. I can’t begin to tell you the joy of staying home to raise them or the sorrow watching my oldest and youngest think less of themselves.By that I mean wanting more for others than themselves, because they somehow feel less deserving. And as a mom all I wanted to do is rescue them from that mindset, but as much as I’d like to believe different, mommy can’t fix everything.
Recently, I saw it from God’s perspective. Imagine how He feels watching us think little of ourselves, despite sending Jesus to fix all that. After all Jesus accomplished for us on the cross, we don’t fully believe and receive it.
We leave so much of His blessing on the table because we think a touch of self-loathing is honorable. How that must grieve Him!
But DADDY God doesn’t stay grieved because He’s focused on the fix. He knows His grace is greater and more attractive than the lies we believe. He’s certain His goodness will change our minds about who we are and His purpose for our lives.
You can’t fix everything, but you can point your children to the One who can. Tell them who Jesus says they are: God’s masterpieces, fearfully and wonderfully made. Tell them God loves them so much that Jesus laid down His life so they could live it.
Tell them over and over, confident that hearing about the goodness of Jesus changes how they see themselves.
I’m counting on that for my children’s sake, for my sake—and for yours.
XO,
Vanessa
