New year, new you.
We embraced it when we said it, Lord. A new year in a new decade, full of so much potential. You promise to take us from glory to glory. And we want to go to new levels—to go wherever You have next for us.
But we’re stuck in the starting block.
Even after letting go past mistakes, we find we’re stuck in the past with old mindsets. Cycles of thinking based on words we owned that weren’t yours and actions You’d never do to us.
Searing words of blame and shame left us feeling unwanted. Toxic touches and silent abandonment left us feeling used and useless.
We thought we did well just surviving them, Jesus.
By your grace, we lived despite the wicked whispers saying we’re ruined—and we should end it all. We earned degrees, excelled in careers, married and started families.
But we had no idea we lived chained to pain till You called us to mount up on wings as eagles. We tried to take off, but a nagging feeling yanked us back—the feeling we’re not worthy.
Isn’t that the reason those closest wounded us and walked away?
But You meet us in that space to show us your scarred hands and feet—the evidence of our worth. And You invite us to live defined by your wounds and not our own, by your words and not the words of others.
Lord, help us change the tape playing silently in the background of our souls.
Your word is quick and precise, skillfully dividing truth from lies. Lord, help us love your word, to approach it like a meal, not a snack, to chew on it day and night until our thoughts agree with yours.
Because two cannot walk together unless they agree, and we want to go wherever You lead without hesitation.
We praise You because we’re fearfully and wonderfully made, created for good works You planned for us long ago. And we reject and renounce the power we gave our past to keep us from experiencing your love for us in every way.
So, forgetting those things behind us, we press toward the prize—the greater call You have for us. We do it rehearsing your promises, not our pain. And we give You all the glory!
It’s in your name, Jesus, we pray. Amen.
