If God is so good, why does He allow suffering?

Father, we hear this question from unbelievers often, especially these days.

And to be honest, some of us have asked it at tough points in our walk with You. But then we remember your ways are not our ways and your thoughts are not our thoughts.

We understand we can’t reason anything about You based on our experiences. And we can’t reason with the world based on their circumstances. We must see You in your Word.

And the truth is, if You wanted to destroy mankind, You could. None of us could withstand your indignation or endure your fierce anger. You are a jealous God who will not leave the guilty unpunished.

And that’s the beauty of the Gospel.

Because You also so loved the world, You gave your Son to be a ransom for all. You poured your fierce anger out on Jesus, punishing Him with our guilt, He died in our place.

And to those who receive Your priceless gift by faith, You promise to never count our sins against us.

Lord, You are good and your mercy endures forever!

The truth is, You are good though mankind isn’t. And our only hope in this fallen world is choosing not to remain fallen people.

Jesus is the way. There is no other name given under heaven by which mankind must be saved.

You desire that none should perish, so Father, give us the courage to speak the Truth to a lost and hurting world.

Make us more aware of their desperation than any intimidation.

It’s in the matchless name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Inspired by Romans 1:16.
Here at Vine Life Faith, we pray God’s Word to experience God’s will because His words are the only ones He’s obligated to keep. While we pray inspired by a particular verse, the prayer references multiple verses as the Lord leads. You’re welcome to share this prayer and if it blesses you or someone you know—say so in the comments below. God bless you!
