Bigger is better. The more the merrier. They’re catchy phrases, but they’re not universal truths.
The Apostle Peter, rich in experience with Jesus and revelation, came across a lame man begging money outside the temple. Peter didn’t have the silver or gold the man asked for, but said, “…such as I have I give thee.” Confident, he stretched out his faith in Jesus’ finished work on the cross. The lame beggar, stretching out his faith, received his healing and jumped to his feet. This man got more than he asked for because Peter valued what he had to offer and gave it (read Acts 3: 1-11).
This is what the Holy Spirit recalled to mind when I attempted to explain why my petite platform made an unsuitable stage for anyone. He reminded me of all the heroes of faith, ordinary and overlooked, yet called to do extraordinary things by God’s grace. Silly me. I forgot God specializes in using people and situations that make those of us “in the know” look foolish (see 1 Cor 1: 26-29).
Abraham worshipper of false gods, turned father of faith in Christ Jesus.
David, despised by his father and left to tend sheep, turned crown jewel of the lineage of the Son of David.
Esther, lowly orphan turned queen, used to save the children of Israel.
Joseph, Egyptian slave turned second in command to Pharaoh, himself, because the Lord made him successful (see Genesis 39: 2-3).
Peter, cussing fisherman who denied knowing Christ, turned first spokesman of Church on the day of Pentecost.
Of course, the Lord finds nothing wrong with my petite platform. He’s the One who makes the difference in every situation. He’s the One who gets the glory!

Don’t despise the day of small beginnings. Do what Jesus puts on your heart. Don’t wait for large numbers of likes or followers or “key connections.” Begin where you are. Do it by His grace, trusting Him to supply what you lack and for the outcome. Put what little you have in Jesus’ hands. He’s bigger and He’ll do it better!
