At Ease, Mama

…”Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.  Exodus 14:13

One of the things I enjoy about being a woman is my God-given insight, commonly called intuition, which particularly benefits me as a wife and mother.  It has been a two-edged sword however!  On one hand I see God’s gifting in each of my children but on the other hand I see the enemy pushing their buttons in hopes of triggering their self-destruction.

There is nothing more frustrating and frightening for a mother than watching her child self-destruct.  You can see the cause and the dreadful outcome.  Your only choices seem to be standing by and watching the train wreck or doing something! I’ve been on the “doing” end for years ready to take on anyone and anything that threatens my children.  That soldier attitude and posture got so ingrained in me till the line between my children’s poor choices and the enemy deceiving them was so blurred that at times I treated my children like the enemy.  Fighting is a weary work; so is standing guard waiting for the enemy’s next assault.

The Lord doesn’t want me weary, He wants me rested and refreshed.  He wants the same for all His beloved children.  Instead of standing at attention thinking it’s my role to fight off every adversary that threatens my family; the Lord wants me at ease.  That is the posture of faith for the believer, a member of the Lord’s army.  The Lord has already triumphed over the enemy. He fought the fight and WON!  All that’s left for me to do is stand still, speak words of grace over my family, remind them of their inheritance in Christ and watch Jesus’ work come to pass in the life of every member of my family.  I’ve tried it and I’m seeing the Lord do great things!  Isn’t the Lord good?!!

Reality Check

Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.  Proverbs 19:21, NIV

As we move closer to Election Day here in America, I feel the need to share my heart on this truth from Scripture.  If you are in Christ, the future of your family is in His hands.  He knows the plans He has for you, your spouse and your children and they are GOOD.  Furthermore, what He’s planned WILL come to pass.  People have all kind of agendas and make all kinds of promises, some well-intended, but the bottom line is: no man’s policy dictates the believer’s outcome.  We are not of this world’s system or at the mercy of its fallen wisdom.  We are new creations in Christ, protected by His favor.

Our vote neither endears us to the Lord nor mandates our future or those of our lineage.  Our personal and our family’s success, in every area of life, are because of Christ and Him alone.  He is our provision, He is our health, and He is our strength and shield.  We are not depending on people to meet our needs, we are in the Lord’s care and He is our keeper.  He opens doors that no man can open and closes doors that no man can close.  He is the same Lord that commanded ravens to feed the prophet Elijah and prospered Isaac in the midst of famine.

The Lord loves you perfectly so don’t be fearful of the outcome of this election.  Just vote as the Lord leads you.  Everything always has and will always be about Jesus Christ…whether politicians know it or not.
