But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 14:26
So how do we receive the Lord’s instruction? How do we know what He wants us to do in a given situation? We don’t live in Old Testament times where people like, Abraham and Samuel, heard God’s audible voice.
In the Old Testament, God had to speak to His children audibly because there was no other option, but as in everything, Jesus makes all the difference. His coming and shedding His blood on the cross for the sin of all mankind made those, who put their faith in that work, clean and set apart, a suitable home for His Spirit to dwell.
He will teach you all things…
With the Holy Spirit inside you, God has no reason to speak from the outside, where everyone else is , including Satan. Now He instructs you from within.
…bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you…
He can remind you of a specific verse and explain it, in relation to your situation. That’s why reading the Bible is essential. The Holy Spirit can’t remind you of what you’ve never known.
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27
The Holy Spirit also guides you by the same peace the Lord gave you. In any decision there is an option that brings peace and an option that leaves you anxious and worried. The Holy Spirit does not use fear; He is a spirit of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). He leads you with peace in any given situation. If you don’t have any peace about any of it, then do nothing and keep praying about. God is not pushy.
I know what you’re thinking? But what if I don’t have peace either way because I don’t want to do what God wants? Anyone who’s surrendered their lives to the Lord and believes He loves them, will come around to following His leading.
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. Philippians 2:13, NLT, emphasis mine
A prayer:
DADDY God, thank You for loving me and teaching me through your Word and through the person of the Holy Spirit. He lives in me to guide me in the good plans you have for me. Help me to trust Him and follow Him in paths of peace. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
