Poem 6

Healing Flow
by Vanessa Harris

God of all comfort,
let your healing waters flow over my soul.
Healing old hurts,
giving context to pain.
God of all comfort,
let your healing waters flow over my soul. Revealing your good plans for me!

Where Are We Going?

…looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…Hebrews 12:2

These days, that’s the question I hear most often from the back seat.  Gone are the days when my kids just went with the flow, oblivious to the concept of a destination.  Now, even my two year old is asking me where we’re going.  Today it occurred to me that I’ve been asking the Lord that same question more often lately.  My family is in the midst of change on so many fronts, but the outcomes seem so vague.  It’s hard enough when one thing shifts, but when everything is shifting at one time you just want to say “somebody let me off this ride”!

It reminds me of dance lessons when I was younger.  When my dance teacher 1st taught me how to pirouette I got dizzy and lost my balance.  I didn’t get the hang of it until she told me to pick a spot to focus on.  When I looked for that spot on every revolution, no matter how fast, I didn’t get dizzy and stayed on my feet.

The longer I walk with the Lord, the more I see it as a dance where He is leading and I often can’t see my way into the next “move”.  Then there are the “spin moves” that are thrilling to watch from the outside but not so much for the one being spun.  In dance, partners maintain eye contact which promotes stability and fosters trust.  And so it is with Jesus and me.  He is my rock, my firm foundation.  He knows every spot on the dance floor called my life and He leads me expertly.  Sometimes it’s a slow and easy waltz where I can look around, take in the view and flow with Him.  Other times it’s like disco, where between the fantastic lifts and the hi-speed spins I don’t know which way is up!  No matter what the circumstance, as long as my eyes are fixed on Jesus’ “eyes” and the cross reflected in them, my faith is boosted and I land gingerly on my feet exactly right where I should.

I don’t always tell my kids where we’re headed next.  The Lord doesn’t always tell me either, but He has an excellent track record so I’ll trust that wherever He leads me is going to be GOOD!
