If I had to explain neediness, I would describe it as the desperate expression of absolute dependence. Neediness definitely has a scent to it, perceived differently depending on who is needed.
Between people, neediness has a repulsive stench, exposing our limited strength and supply. No fault there, we’re not designed to be each other’s source.
Jesus, however, finds desperation a sweet smell, an opportunity to show His limitless love, grace, and supply. Neediness is neither wrong nor offensive when you bring it to the right One.
O Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress. Isaiah 33:2 NIV
