Unconditional Love for Awesome Kids Under Construction

My middle child turned 10 yesterday making 2 kids in double digits!  It’s like I blinked and my sons are long, lean and muscular. There’s no trace of the chubby cheeks I loved to kiss when they were babies (sigh).  Oh wait, I’m doing it again…

Today I realize I’ve spent too much time lamenting the loss of the “easy” days of parenting, when they’re easy to care for, easy to enjoy, and so darn cute!  It’s been a difficult transition to “mom of pre-teen males”; the holes in my skill set have been exposed. This IS an awkward, ugly season of contradictions. He thinks he knows everything when he barely knows anything (relatively speaking), then in the next breath he’s clingy, clueless, and immature. And boy is he mouthy! (If that’s hereditary, then I raise my hand now.)

But there is so much about him to love!  He’s adventurous and encouraging, inquisitive and loving, smart and funny. That’s what I have the privilege of focusing on and being a part of every day. Sure, he’s more prickly these days, but he’s under construction just like the rest of us. I just love him to pieces!  My husband and I entrust Him in Jesus’ hands while we look forward to seeing the world changer he becomes!

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.  1 John 3:2
