Live Your Life!

School’s out and summer is here.  Time for a slower pace, getting out and having fun!  For my kids, that involves the pool, and even though they’re not strong swimmers yet (something which drives my Coast Guard husband up the wall—smile babe), they at least enjoy playing in the water.

My sons trotted off to one end and my daughter spent some time practicing her kick.  With her hands on the bottom of the shallow end, she let her legs float up and started kicking.  At some point during her joyful frolic, her foot scraped the bottom of the pool.  She sat next to me on the edge of the pool to show me, but I didn’t see a thing on the toe my “aspiring hypochondriac” complained about (something this pediatrician just can’t get enough of—insert eye roll and laugh here)!  After playfully teasing her, off she went back in the water.

A couple of rounds of Marco-polo passed and she was back—pouting.  Why?  Well she hops up on the edge of the pool to tell me that her hurting toe (now with a faintly visible scrape) kept her from enjoying the game and slowed her down.  “It ruined her fun.”

“That’s a little scrape on a big girl,” I said.  “You can’t let THAT ruin your fun.  Sometimes you have to push past things and keep on going.  That’s how life is, honey.  You’re going along, doing your thing and something frustrating happens.  You can’t just stop living and get stuck whining about it.  You need to move on and live your life while the situation gets worked out.”  She looked at me, smiled and got back in the action.

Jesus came to give us life, and life more abundantly (see John 10:10).  There will always be little foxes that ruin the vine (Song of Solomon 2:15) and try to rain on our parade, but don’t get stuck on them.  They pale in comparison to our God and what He’s doing in our lives.  They’re just little scrapes on us big girls and boys, conquerors in Christ.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 1 Corinthians 9:24, NIV

You’re the only runner in your race.  Keep running your race and live your life!
