Well, it’s been about a week since the election and, for many, everything’s boiled down to this question. The entire election season and its results have left people looking side-eyed at each other, assuming the worst. And the chasm isn’t just in the mainstream, it’s in the Church. We seem more divided than ever with many having a hard time reconciling candidate choices with our common kinship in Christ.
We’re a nation burdened and bent over, looking down in discouragement and looking around in fear.
How did we get here? Misplaced faith. We’ve exchanged faith in God for faith in people and policy. Here’s the problem with that:
Where do we go from here? I don’t have the answer, but I know it can’t come from me or any other human being. Realizing the limits of our knowledge and wisdom is humbling, but necessary, if we’re going to get out of the mess we’ve made and move forward together.
“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.” John 3:16, The Message Bible
Contrary to what you may have heard, God is for you and He loves YOU. He’s not overwhelmed by your fears, circumstances, or the condition of the U.S. and the world at large. He has the answer. It’s not too late to turn to the grace, wisdom, and protection found in Jesus Christ.
